Who We Are
River Valley Loans is a d/b/a (doing business as) name of Wahido Lending. When you see either name on your documents, they refer to the same lender. Knowing the legal name behind a brand is one of the simplest ways to confirm who you're dealing with.
We offer consumer installment loans online to borrowers in the states we serve. Our work is simple to describe: provide small-dollar loans with clear terms, and help borrowers understand what those loans cost before they sign. We also want borrowers to understand the limits of these loans, including that they are meant for short-term needs.
Tribal Ownership: The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe
Wahido Lending is a tribal lending entity under the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe is a federally recognized tribe located in South Dakota.
Because we are a tribal lending entity, our status differs from that of a lender licensed by an individual state. We believe you should know that clearly and up front, before you apply.
If you'd like a general background on how this works, our article on tribal sovereignty and consumer lending explains the concepts in plain language.
Governing Law and Tribal License
Our loans are issued under the Tribe's Tribal Consumer Financial Services Regulatory Code. Here is what that means for you:
- Licensed under Tribal law. River Valley Loans holds its license under the laws of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe.
- Subject to Tribal and applicable federal law. Your loan is governed by Tribal law and by the federal laws that apply to it.
- Not governed by State law. State lending laws do not govern our loans.
Your Loan Agreement sets out the governing law for your specific loan. Please read that section closely before you sign, and ask us about anything you don't understand. Knowing which rules apply to your loan is part of making an informed choice.
Dispute Resolution
If you have a problem with your loan, we'd like the chance to fix it. Start by reaching out to our customer service team, since many issues can be resolved in a single conversation.
It helps to have your details ready: the name on your account, the dates involved, and a clear description of the issue. Keeping copies of emails and documents can also make the process smoother.
If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you have another option. Borrowers may file a dispute with the Tribe's Financial Services Licensing & Regulatory Commission.
Our Lending Principles
Three commitments guide how we work with borrowers.
Transparency
We explain the cost of borrowing openly. Your APR and finance charge are disclosed in your Loan Agreement, and we state plainly that our loans are expensive and meant for short-term needs. Loan costs, fees, and state availability are gathered in one place on our rates page.
Data security
Protecting what you share with us matters, which is why our systems rely on security technology built to guard personal information against unauthorized access. Our Privacy Policy explains how your information is shared and the choices you have.
Personal service
When you have a question about an application, a payment, or your account, you can talk to a member of our team. We would rather hear from you early than have a small problem grow. If a payment date or your bank details need to change, getting in touch ahead of time gives us room to help.
Industry Membership: Online Lenders Alliance
River Valley Loans is a member of the Online Lenders Alliance (OLA), an industry association for online lenders. Industry membership is one of several things you can check when you research any lender, along with its legal name, ownership, and governing law.
One more tip for staying safe: a look-alike website exists that is not operated by us. Always make sure you're on getrivervalleyloans.com before entering personal details. Our guide on how to spot loan scams walks through other warning signs to watch for.
